About the Role: As a Machine Learning Research Scientist, you will be a critical member of our world-class machine learning team. This dedicated subgroup operates within our R&D department, separate from product development. Our ML Research team focuses specifically on method development—pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in protein and capsid engineering through ML innovation.You will leverage your expertise to design, implement, and evaluate ML models to solve complex biological sequence modeling problems. Your work will directly advance our mission of building high-performance genetic technologies. We are looking to hire 1 candidate for this role as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and evaluation of machine learning models to optimize protein and gene delivery performance.
- Collaborate closely with computational biologists, experimentalists, and software engineers to translate research into tangible advancements.

- Experience with structure-based models (e.g., AlphaFold)

Qualifications:Required Experience & Skills:
- Seniority: 0-5 years of experience as a machine learning scientist in protein design/engineering or biological sequence design post-PhD.
- Hands-on ML Application: Prior hands-on experience applying machine learning to biological sequence design / protein design.
- Model Development: Proven experience in actually developing, designing, implementing, and evaluating machine learning models (not just using existing models for inference).
- Publications (for recent PhDs): If a recent PhD graduate (no industry experience), must have publications in leading ML or ML-biology venues.
- Industry Experience: Industry experience in machine learning research and model deployment.
- Education: PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Biology, or a related quantitative field.
- Programming: Deep programming skills, with proficiency in Python.
- Frameworks: Expertise with PyTorch or equivalent deep learning frameworks.
- Communication: Proficient communication skills, with the ability to present technical results to diverse audiences.
- Collaboration: A collaborative team player with well-developed scientific and technical expertise.
- Rigor: Detail-oriented, with a commitment to scientific rigor and reproducibility.
- Mission Alignment: Must be excited about our mission and have a genuine interest in contributing to transforming patient lives.

Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary: $15,000 - $17,000.
- Equity: Competitive equity package.
- Visa Sponsorship: Available (for OPT Visas, need to have at least 1 year left).
- Work Policy: Hybrid, requiring in-person presence approximately once a week in Boston or NYC.
